The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express: When Travel Becomes Art in Motion

Champagne, Lalique glass, late-night piano, and a new carriage designed to feel less like transport—and more like discovery.

Story

Some journeys are measured in miles. Others are measured in atmosphere. The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express belongs to the second category: champagne before departure, piano after midnight, and a carriage where every detail feels intentional.

In the video, General Manager Pascal Deol introduces L’Observatoire, describing it as “an immersive art in motion.” Created with artist JR, the space blends marquetry, a personal vinyl collection, curved design, an oculus, and even a secret room filled with hidden treasures.

Not ignoring reality—luxury rail is rarefied by definition. But that’s exactly the point. This isn’t simply transportation between destinations. It’s a reminder that the journey itself can still be the destination.
