I think just sitting back and cruising on a boat in those one-of-a-kind waters is the best way to enjoy the area… The Sea of Cortés is the most memorable! Glance at a map and you see the unique geography of the area.”

“It was back in 1992 when I first visited México for my viviendo Deprisa’ tour I will never forget the love with which I was received by all – the fans, the press, the crew I got to work with. I fell in love with the country, its corners, its people – their Sense of humor. I made friends back then with whom I’m still close friends.

I also adore México’s gastronomy, and if I had to select a favorite one, I’d say… tacos al pastor, or cochinita pibil, or birria, or tortas ahogadas, or carne seca, or enchiladas, the arrachera… It’d be hard to pick one.”

“Chefs in Tijuana and Ensenada got tired of waiting for the Americans to come back and just started making really great – really creative food.

There are people there who have been doing great food for 35 years, and there are a bunch of young chefs who have traveled the world who’ve come home and decided, Let’s move Mexican food forward. It’s like Tuscany down there. It’s amazing!

I was there for eight days and didn’t see a single American.Traveled around Wine Country – awesome! It’s the great undiscovered wonderland. Rolling hills, grape arbors and great chefs cooking very forward very subtle, very local, very good food.”

“I first became acquainted with México in kind of a blessed way. I was driving an old beaten up Porsche around Baja, drove down to Tijuana, this was back in my twenties. I returned to México in 1986, when I spent three months in San Miguel de Allende and Pozos for a film I was impassioned about, this is when I finally got to know the México that has never left me.

A hand-woven dyed rug and a horse blanket I found there lie next to the Navaho by my bed to this very day. I had my bed built by a Mexican, out of doors and beams from an abandoned Hacienda. México has always stayed with me. I sleep with her at night.”

The small villages, the kind people that we encounter along the way while racing the Baja 1000, there is something very timeless about the race that makes it so special. It’s like the Wild Wild West!
