Manuel García Rulfo is in Los Cabos talking about his role as Pedro Páramo
Manuel García Rulfo Receives the “Sin Fronteras” Award at the Los Cabos International Film Festival
Beyond Hollywood: a role that carries México’s “tears and blood”
Manuel García Rulfo, this year’s Sin Fronteras (Without Borders) Award recipient, wasn’t celebrated just for crossing into Hollywood—he was honored for carrying Mexican storytelling with him. In an interview with Claudia Velo (CABOPulse), he reflects on playing Pedro Páramo in Rodrigo Prieto’s film adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s novel. García Rulfo calls the book a portrait of México—“the tears and guts and blood and sweat of our people”—and praises Prieto for translating its shifting, magical-realist timeline to screen. Then he turns to Los Cabos with a simple line: “Heaven… Better than Paradise.”
