Los Cabos Developers’ Association Annual Golf Tournament
Raises Funds for Local Charities

For the Los Cabos Developers’ Association, supporting the community has always been a priority, and it is committed to providing economic resources that local charities need to carry out their work. For over 20 years, it has held a golf tournament each May to unite business and development leaders in Los Cabos for a good cause.
The Developers’ Association’s annual golf tournament, named for Manuel Díaz Rivera, was held last year on May 13 and benefitted the Mexican Red Cross and the Fire Department.
“We have always supported these two institutions because in this way we are also supporting the community,” said Norma Rivera, the tournament coordinator.
In recent years, Los Cabos has rapidly become famous as a popular destination for golf players. The tournament offers its participants the chance to play on a new course every year. With Los Cabos’ status the capital of golf, there are plenty of courses to choose from. Each one is among the finest in all of North America, and many were designed by the most famous golf players in the world.
In 2016, the tournament took place at the “El Cardonal” golf course, designed by Tiger Woods. This course is only a few years old, debuting in December 2014. Located on the Pacific side of Los Cabos, it features panoramic ocean views.
The players in the tournament are active members of the Developers’ Association, and each one invites a guest. The guests include some of Los Cabos’ most distinguished businessmen, such as restaurant owners and builders, who contribute to the area’s
dynamic growth and development. Last year, the event also included Genaro Ruíz, the Secretary of Tourism for the state of Baja California Sur.
“They are excited, waiting for the month of May to be able to play in our Developers’ Golf Tournament, which is why it is now a tradition to play it,” Norma Rivera said. “Some think that we should have two tournaments a year.”
The tournament participants were divided into 18 teams, four players each. The winners of last year’s tournament were John R. Solis, Juan Antonio Aguilar, Manuel Díaz Rivera Jr. and Sergio Calderon. The second-place team consisted of Luis Miguel Valle, Emilio Ruíz, Pablo Díaz Rivera and Victor H. Gazca.
Manuel Díaz Rivera, the tournament’s namesake, was one of the founding members of the Los Cabos Developers’ Association and the owner of the El Pedregal development in Cabos San Lucas. Last year, his sons received a posthumous award to honor his contributions. His family continues to participate actively in the association and the annual golf tournament.
The date and place for this year’s tournament has not been determined yet, but the coordinator is already hard at work making sure it will maintain the tradition of uniting Developers’ Association members for a memorable afternoon at a beautiful course, raising money to help community institutions.
In its 22nd year, the Developers’ Association Golf Tournament is sure to be another phenomenal day that makes a big difference for the community of Los Cabos.
