Full marine safari with Baja Adventures. Coronado Island, sea lions, naturalist guide, hydrophone, beach lunch. This is the day that makes people come back. Evening at El Zopilote — the only craft brewery for miles, with genuinely good beer, not just notable for being the only option.

The best inland day in Baja. Drive an hour into the Sierra de la Giganta to San Javier — a village of a few hundred people around a Jesuit mission completed in 1758, considered the best-preserved in all of Baja California. Next to the church, a 300-year-old olive tree claimed to be the first planted on the American continent: $10 donation to the caretaker, worth every peso. Afternoon: Rancho Santo Domingo, where Humberto's grandson Brian guides a scramble up to Cueva de la Serpiente — cave paintings by the Cochimi people, thousands of years old, including a whale and deer-headed serpents. Buy Humberto's goat cheese on the way out.

TPC Danzante Bay. Full round. Book early tee time. Hole 17 from 250 feet above the sea. The back nine is canyon, cliff and beach in sequence. Reward yourself with the spa at Villa del Palmar after the round. Dinner: La Mision's Los Olivos Restaurant — the Sunday brunch is the standout, but the dinner menu earns its own place.

Morning kayak from the beach — Sea Kayak Baja Mexico rents gear by the hour. Paddle toward Nopoló for coastline views: mountains behind, sea lions ahead, pelicans overhead. Afternoon: slow walk, BuenaVida for chocolate clams and a last look at the bay. Departure from LTO — 10 minutes from town center.

In season (January–March), blue whale encounters in the Loreto Bay Marine Park are among the rarest wildlife experiences available anywhere. The largest animal on earth, in protected waters, guided by naturalists who run citizen science monitoring programs. Baja Adventures deploys a hydrophone — you hear the whales before you see them. Book the 9-hour remote islands tour for maximum time on the water. Even outside blue whale season, the park delivers: bottlenose dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, mobula rays. No day is ordinary.

First round at TPC Danzante Bay. Take the front nine slowly — the canyon holes from 2 through 8 are where the course reveals itself. Save your concentration for 17. Evening: Los Olivos Restaurant at La Mision for dinner. The wine list is the best in Loreto.

Agua Verde is a tiny fishing village accessible only by dirt road or sea, 60km south of Loreto. Baja Adventures runs a 4x4 expedition through the desert to reach it. Snorkel in waters where the catch is so dense the fish block the light. Fresh local lunch prepared by the village. The drive back through the Giganta is worth doing in silence.

The sierra day — same as 5-day Day 3. San Javier Mission, 300-year-old olive tree, Cueva de la Serpiente with Humberto's grandson Brian. Goat cheese on the way out. This day always runs long. Leave early.

Baja Adventures runs a half-day mule safari through the canyons of the Sierra de la Giganta — remote trails passable only on muleback, through desert oases fed by hidden springs, past camera traps the guides use for wildlife monitoring. It feels like the Baja that existed before the road. Afternoon: kayak from town. Evening: Thursday pizza with Chef Claudio at La Mision if the calendar aligns.

Second round at TPC Danzante Bay. Rees Jones himself says the course takes two or three rounds to reveal its nuances. This time you know the greens. The back nine — beach, cliff, canyon — plays differently every day depending on the wind off the sea. Spa after. Farewell dinner at BuenaVida or Los Olivos.

Loreto has near-zero light pollution — if you haven't spent a night looking up, do it on the last evening. The Milky Way is visible from the beach. Morning: one last walk on the Malecón, Mariscos Ivan if he's there, coffee at Café Olé on the pedestrian street. LTO is 10 minutes from town center. The flight to LA takes less than three hours. You will feel the gap.
